Carbon Fiber Development Prospects
Jul 16, 2018

The world's carbon fiber production reaches more than 40,000 tons per year, all

The world is mainly Japan, the United States, Germany, and a few countries such as South Korea have mastered the core technology of carbon fiber production, and have large-scale production.

At present, the global carbon fiber core technology is firmly in the hands of a few developed countries. On the one hand, developed countries led by the United States and Japan have always maintained a strict technical blockade on China's carbon fiber industry; on the other hand, foreign carbon fiber industry leaders have begun to enter the Chinese market, and the pressure on China's domestic carbon fiber companies has increased. Although China has increased its guidance and support for the carbon fiber industry, under the larger technological gap, the breakthrough path of domestic carbon fiber is still bumpy.

China's research on carbon fiber began in the 1960s, and in the 1980s it began to study high-strength carbon fiber. Progress has been slow over the years, but it has also achieved certain results. Since the beginning of the 21st century, Anhui has taken the lead in introducing 500 tons of annual raw silk and 200 tons of annual PAN-based carbon fiber, which has brought China's carbon fiber industry into industrialization. Subsequently, some places have joined the ranks of carbon fiber production.

Since 2000, China's carbon fiber has diversified into technology, and abandoned the original nitric acid raw silk manufacturing technology. The one-step wet spinning technology with dimethyl sulfoxide as solvent has been successful. A small number of domestic T700 carbon fiber products developed by independent technology have reached the level of international similar products. As China's demand for carbon fiber is growing, carbon fiber has been listed as a key support for the national chemical fiber industry. In 2005, the global carbon fiber market was only 900 million US dollars, and in 2013 it reached 10 billion US dollars. It is expected to reach 40 billion US dollars by 2022, and the application of carbon fiber composite materials will enter a new era. China's carbon fiber industrialization adopts a combination of independent development and introduction. By the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", the domestically produced carbon fiber production line equivalent to Japan's T300 has been basically realized, and some enterprises have formed a 100-ton production line with a T700 or higher level.
